The original Eclipse Brooch was made with a metal detected find which was listed on eBay as a Roman mirror. I tend to keep new things on my desk until suddenly I know what to do with them. It looked like the moon and I started to look for images of an eclipse of the sun. I found what I wanted (see the last image).
After it sold, I made a smaller version with a piece of round heat-oxidised gilding metal which was given to me as it resembled the Roman mirror. The red hue of the metal made it look like a blood moon, hence the new name.
