Each of the faceted diamond slices has 23 carat gold leaf behind it which gives an amazing deep glow to them. The technique of using foil behind paste stones is an old one and it made the glass stones look more interesting. When real gold leaf is used behind real stones the effect is remarkable and quite mysterious.. They are framed by tiny antique seed pearls and secured with 18 carat gold wire. I think the pearls were sometimes used as a necklace to wear over a baby’s christening gown. They are hard to find and hard to work with being so very small.
