An example of pareidolia, which means the illusory perception of meaningful or familiar images in random or amorphous objects. Think of clouds that look like dragons, the man in the moon, faces emerging from patterned wallpapers. In this case the agate appears to picture a tree at sunset. The sunset is achieved by backing the agate with 24ct gold leaf, where the stone was clearer. We have used built up granulation to frame the stone.
