Tentorium Box with Sea Urchin Spine

£1,385.00

Silver; sea urchin spine; moon gold leaf

On a print of microscopic sea creatures I saw this organism called Tentorium which I assume means ‘like a tent’. It would move through the water like a jellyfish, flattening out and then propelling itself by forming a shape like a tepee. The handle at the top is a sea urchin spine.

The top of the box is formed from silver sheet and the ‘sea eaten’ effect is achieved by using a burr and individually cutting out each hole. The inside is gilded/plated with 18 carat moon gold. The base of the box is drilled out again to suggest the effects of the sea.
